| These
works on paper are a study in luminosity. Weese builds the
ground by layering thin coats of translucent color. She
wipes away the central figure each time in a gesture of carving
to reveal the essential shape. As the intensity builds, a
visual vibration occurs. The shapes hover and radiate outward—calling
the viewer to step through the key-hole, into an inner world.
With degrees in sculpture and painting, Marcia Weese has
created many site specific sculptures, fountains and installations
across the country and in Germany, including a ‘percent
for art’ commission on Lake Michigan north of Chicago.
She is presently working in the monoprint medium, creating
luminous sculptural forms that portray an inner radiance.
These works on paper reflect the wonder and wisdom of the
natural world. Each panel tells a story, painting a portrait
of elusive moments that land somewhere between shadow and
memory. Her pieces range in scale from the intimate to the
monumental.
